Mindoro Youth Hails DOST's Science Week: Inspiring Future Innovators!

SAN JOSE, Occidental Mindoro – The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) MIMAROPA’s recent Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) proved to be a resounding success, leaving a lasting positive impression on the youth of Mindoro. Young participants lauded the event for its engaging activities, insightful presentations, and its ability to spark an interest in science and technology.

The RSTW, held in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro, aimed to showcase the DOST’s various programs and initiatives, particularly those geared towards fostering innovation and scientific literacy among the younger generation. It featured exhibits, interactive demonstrations, and talks by renowned scientists and engineers, all designed to make science accessible and exciting.

“It was really inspiring to see the different projects and technologies that DOST is working on,” shared Maria Santos, a high school student from a local school. “It made me realize that science isn’t just about textbooks and experiments; it's about solving real-world problems and making a difference.”

Another participant, Juan dela Cruz, a college student pursuing engineering, emphasized the practical value of the event. “The RSTW gave me a better understanding of how science and technology can be applied to improve our communities. I learned about opportunities for research and development, and it motivated me to pursue a career in STEM.”

DOST MIMAROPA Regional Director, Dr. Evelyn Garcia, expressed her delight at the overwhelmingly positive response from the youth. “We are thrilled to see the enthusiasm and passion for science and technology among the young people of Mindoro,” she said. “Our goal is to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers, and innovators who will contribute to the progress of our region and the country.”

The RSTW also provided a platform for DOST to connect with local government units, academic institutions, and industry partners, fostering collaborations that will further strengthen the science and technology ecosystem in Mindoro. Workshops and seminars were also conducted, aimed at equipping educators with the tools and knowledge to effectively integrate STEM education into their curricula.

The success of this year’s RSTW underscores the importance of investing in science and technology education and outreach programs. By igniting the curiosity and passion of young minds, DOST is playing a crucial role in building a brighter and more innovative future for the Philippines. The event serves as a reminder that the future of science and technology lies in the hands of the next generation, and it’s vital to provide them with the opportunities and support they need to thrive.

DOST MIMAROPA plans to continue its efforts to promote science and technology education through various initiatives, including science fairs, workshops, and mentorship programs. They are also exploring ways to expand the reach of the RSTW to include more schools and communities across the region.
