SSNIT: Getting Ghanaians Online is Top Challenge - Biney

Accra – The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) faces its most significant hurdle not in technological advancements, but in encouraging wider adoption of its digital platforms among Ghanaians, according to Director-General Kwasi Afreh Biney.

Biney stated that while SSNIT has made considerable strides in upgrading its technology to streamline pension services, the primary obstacle now lies in persuading more citizens to utilize these convenient online tools. The shift towards digital platforms aims to accelerate service delivery and improve accessibility for contributors and pensioners alike.

SSNIT has been actively promoting its online services, including registration, contribution payments, benefit application, and statement access. However, uptake has not been as widespread as initially anticipated, presenting a challenge to fully realizing the benefits of the technological investments.

The pension scheme plays a crucial role in Ghana's social security system, providing retirement benefits and other social protections to workers and their dependents. Increasing digital literacy and providing adequate support to users are key strategies being considered to address this challenge and ensure that all eligible Ghanaians can easily access and manage their pension accounts.

SSNIT’s ongoing efforts to modernize its operations reflect a broader trend within Ghana’s public sector towards digitalization, aimed at enhancing efficiency and transparency in government services. Overcoming the adoption barrier remains a critical priority for the organization to maximize the impact of its technological investments and ultimately improve the lives of Ghanaian citizens.
