Ann Arbor is celebrating its own as Mallory Palmer, an elementary school teacher, has been crowned Miss Michigan 2025! While she’ll be representing the state for the next year, Palmer says her most cherished title remains “Miss Palmer,” a name she’s known by within her classroom and community. But beyond the crown and sash, Palmer has a powerful platform and a passionate mission: advocating for improved mental health resources for Michigan’s students.

Palmer’s dedication to student wellbeing isn't new. As an educator in Ann Arbor, she’s witnessed firsthand the growing challenges young people face, from academic pressure and social anxieties to the lingering effects of the pandemic. “I’ve seen an increase in students struggling with anxiety, depression, and just overall emotional distress,” Palmer shared in a recent interview. “They need more support, and they need it now.”

Her platform as Miss Michigan will focus on raising awareness about the importance of mental health and lobbying for increased funding and access to mental health services in schools across the state. This includes advocating for more school counselors, psychologists, and social workers, as well as implementing preventative programs that teach students coping skills and resilience.

“It’s not just about crisis intervention,” Palmer explains. “It’s about building a culture of support and understanding where students feel comfortable talking about their feelings and seeking help when they need it. We need to equip our educators with the tools and training to recognize and address mental health concerns early on.”

Palmer’s vision extends beyond just the school environment. She plans to collaborate with community organizations and mental health professionals to create a network of support for students and their families. This includes providing resources for parents and caregivers to help them better understand and support their children’s mental health.

The Miss Michigan competition isn’t just about beauty and poise; it’s about intelligence, leadership, and a commitment to service. Palmer embodies all of these qualities. Her genuine passion for student wellbeing, combined with her platform, makes her a powerful advocate for change. She hopes her reign as Miss Michigan will inspire other young women to use their voices to make a difference in their communities.

“I believe every student deserves the opportunity to thrive, both academically and emotionally,” Palmer concluded. “And I’m committed to doing everything I can to help make that a reality for Michigan’s students.” Follow Miss Michigan 2025’s journey as she works to champion student mental health and create a brighter future for the next generation.
