PBS Maintains Independence Within GRS Coalition, Emphasizes Partnership, Not Subservience
KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) has firmly asserted its position within the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition, clarifying that it operates as an independent partner, refusing to be perceived as a mere subordinate following instructions. This statement, delivered by PBS Information Chief Datuk Bangkuai Sulaiman, underscores the party’s commitment to contributing actively and thoughtfully to the coalition’s decision-making process.
The GRS coalition, a significant force in Sabah's political landscape, comprises eight parties working together to govern the state. While collaboration and unity are paramount, PBS is keen to dispel any notion that it blindly adheres to directives from other coalition members. “We are loyal to GRS, but we are not a ‘yes, boss’ partner,” Datuk Bangkuai stated, emphasizing the importance of mutual respect and constructive dialogue.
This declaration comes at a time when coalition dynamics and power balances are under scrutiny. Maintaining a strong identity while remaining a committed member of the coalition is a delicate act, and PBS appears determined to navigate it skillfully. The party believes that its experience and contributions are valuable to the coalition’s overall success.
Datuk Bangkuai further elaborated, explaining that PBS brings a unique perspective and a long history of serving the people of Sabah to the table. He highlighted the importance of each party within the coalition retaining its autonomy and voice, fostering a vibrant and dynamic environment for policy development. A coalition of varying viewpoints, he argued, leads to more robust and well-considered decisions that ultimately benefit the state and its citizens.
The statement also subtly addresses concerns about potential dominance by other parties within the GRS coalition. By explicitly rejecting the notion of subservience, PBS reinforces its commitment to equitable partnership and mutual accountability. This message is likely to resonate with PBS supporters and those who value a balanced political landscape in Sabah.
Looking ahead, PBS intends to continue actively participating in coalition discussions and contributing to the formulation of policies that align with its principles and the needs of the Sabah community. The party’s emphasis on independence and partnership signals a proactive approach to ensuring its voice is heard and its contributions are valued within the GRS framework. The commitment to a collaborative, rather than hierarchical, structure promises a more stable and effective governing coalition for Sabah.
The message from PBS is clear: loyalty to GRS doesn't equate to blind obedience. It signifies a dedication to a shared goal, achieved through open communication, mutual respect, and the independent contribution of each partner.
