Kuala Lumpur, August 24 – A traffic incident on the North-South Expressway (NSE) southbound near Tangkak resulted in five injuries, including the driver of an express bus, after it collided with a stalled trailer. The accident occurred at KM152.4 of the highway earlier today, causing significant disruption to traffic flow.

According to authorities, the express bus, carrying passengers on a long-distance route, rear-ended the trailer which was experiencing mechanical difficulties and had pulled over to the side of the road. The impact caused substantial damage to both vehicles, and immediate medical assistance was required for those injured.

“We received a report of the incident at approximately [Time of Incident] and immediately dispatched emergency responders to the scene,” stated a spokesperson from the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM). “Five individuals, including the bus driver, sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate. They were promptly attended to by medical personnel and transported to nearby hospitals for further treatment.”

The injured passengers and the driver are currently receiving medical care. While the full extent of their injuries is still being assessed, initial reports indicate no life-threatening conditions. Authorities have confirmed that the trailer driver was also among those injured.

The NSE southbound lane near KM152.4 was temporarily closed to facilitate rescue operations and for the removal of the damaged vehicles. This caused considerable congestion, with traffic backed up for several kilometers. Traffic police were on site to manage the flow of vehicles and divert traffic where necessary. Motorists were advised to use alternative routes to avoid the affected area.

“We urge all motorists to exercise caution and adhere to speed limits, particularly during peak hours and in areas with reduced visibility,” added the LLM spokesperson. “Regular vehicle maintenance is also crucial to prevent such incidents.
